The L’s…

November 17, 2011

Gotta make this short and sweet, Momma L just called me wanting to see her sneak peek.  I guess when I told her they’d be up tonight I neglected to tell her that meant sometime around 11:00 pm, but I know morning comes really, really early for her:)   This was one rough shoot alot of wind and gray skies.  I went into this being optimistic, sometimes gray skies are pretty nice to work with.  Not so much on this day.  Besides gray skies and leaf-less (is that even a word??) trees, we had pretty strong winds which kept us literally shooting in a corner.  Realistically, who wants a picture where your hair is sticking straight up or across your face???   We did the best we could and fortunately still ended up with some good shots.   This family is such an attractive one, I can’t wait to get them back to this location in the Spring and really get creative so we can get that great canvas she wants!!   But, for now, here’s a few for you…

Maria

October 25, 2011

And, yet another dancer.   I just love em!!  Seriously, all of the girls at my daughter’s dance studio are the sweetest, smartest and kindest girls there are.  I remember when my 9 yr old started dancing at Sherry’s Academy at age 5, I looked and listened to the girls and thought to myself that I wanted my girl to be exactly like the teenagers I was just then meeting.  Maria is one of those girls!!  Not only is she beautiful, kind and sweet, but she also happens to be U-M bound!!   She was so fun to shoot.  I love the range of styles that you get from her.  One minute it’s the girl next door and then with a simple flip of the bangs I can’t decide whether it’s a picture for a hair or a skin ad!!  We have 2 more smaller shoots coming up.  A sunset and, of course, a dance studio shoot.   I absolutely cannot wait to see the look we evoke from those.   Until then….

Miss Courtney!!

September 8, 2011

That’s what my daughter calls her – Miss Courtney.   I met this beautiful, sweet woman at my daughter’s dance studio.   I remember the first time I saw her; she was about 15,  had a very short haircut and her dancing blew me away.  She ultimately became one of my daughter’s teachers just recently coming back to Michigan to teach Annabelle and her dance friends a lyrical number which she choreographed.   Courtney is currently living in LA working as a model, dancer and actress and has appeared in a music video as well as a commercial.   For those of you who are SYTYCD fans, she has been a finalist making it all the way to Las Vegas – not just once but twice!!   Extremely impressive for someone so young.   I have a feeling we’re going to be seeing a lot of her in the future and I’ll be able to say “I remember her when” (I’ll have the pics to prove it).    Court contacted me and asked if I would be willing to do a few updated headshots while she was in Michigan.   I immediately said yes as long as she was willing to let me experiment.  Unfortunately, the equipment I had intended on playing with malfunctioned and we had to go back to shooting the old-fashioned way.   Her sneak peek is what we got!   Hope you like these Courtney and once I figure out my extra lights, I hope we get a chance to play some more!!

Jon & Ashley (Leila too)!!

August 13, 2011

Jon & Ashley, oh what can say about these two.   Ashley’s daughter, Leila, and my daughter were competitive dancers and classmates together.   During the past few years we’ve gotten to know each other quite well.  Ashley is one of those people you can trust no matter what and is just down to the bone good!    As everyone knows, people like that are far and few between.  I remember when she met Jon and started talking about him.  I even remember us going for a walk around the dance studio and her pulling out her phone to show me Jon’s picture for the first time.  Over the span of their relationship it became very evident that these two were destined to be together.  Not only is Jon wonderful for Ashley, Leila has gotten herself  the perfect new dad!   The wedding venue was absolutely, positively gorgeous!  Unfortunately, it was probably one of the hottest days of the year and venturing outdoors for any length of time was pretty difficult.    I do have to say I was really impressed that the wedding party put up with our request, put on a smile and headed out.   I can’t imagine having to do that in a suit or a full length dress.  I am so excited for all of them and wish them much, much happiness in the years to come.   Jon & Ashley, because you’ve been so patient waiting for me to post these, I decided you deserved a large preview.   So here you go…..

Loved these!!

It is not too often that people are paired up and you can look and say “soulmates anyone?”, but this is one of those times! Love you guys (leila too! lol :) ) and hopefully will be hanging out married couple style soon enough! :)

You all look beautiful. Congrats Ashley & Jon.

We realize we’ve been neglecting our blog and we’re sorry.  We recently had a wonderful photoshoot with Lili and her little brother,  Lucas.   At mom’s request, the little one’s are our first blog entry since January of this  year.   I can hardly believe that it’s been that long since we posted new images here and it’s feeling really good to be back.    The little one’s grandma attended the shoot and with her she brought a family heirloom children’s dress that is 100+ years old for Lili to wear.  How awesome is that!?!!    What to do, what to do, we thought.  What else could we do other then pull over the family antique steamer trunk that sits in my living room and the antique rocking chair that sits in my little one’s bedroom.    If I do say so myself, they worked great.   We lucked out with Lucas, it’s not that often that we are able to capture such wonderful smiles.  He pulled through for us and I am so pleased with the images we got of  him as well.  Mom, dad, and grandma, I hope you enjoy your sneak peek!!

Mr. J Turns 1!

January 8, 2011

Last December Mr. J, who we have been photographing since he was a newborn, went and turned 1 on us!!    His wonderful parents asked if we could photograph his first birthday.  Without hesitation we welcomed the chance to do so.    On the date of this milestone event, it snowed and snowed and snowed.   Given the amount of snow we were pleasantly surprised at the large number of family and friends that risked their lives to be with him on his special day.   He obviously is well-loved and treasured.  We decided since this was a non-traditional shoot, we would post some non-traditional pictures.  What we are presenting to you are “storyboards”.    A storyboard basically tells the story of an event.   I think these speak for themselves!    Mom and Dad, as always thank you for sharing your little man with us this last year.

Three high school seniors from one family = fun, fun, fun.  When one of them happens to be your nephew/cousin, that makes it even more fun.  Why, because on occassions like this we are afforded the opportunity to try new techniques, new styles and to, basically,  torture them (all in fun of course).  We ended up in downtown Detroit, at locations we have never before ventured into.  The skies were beautiful, but boy was it cold outside.  The trooper award goes to Noelle.  We asked her to put on a tiny skirt, go barefoot and walk through the shooting waterfall.  Her reaction, a quick “okay”.  Only a girl won’t look at you like you’re a crazy person.  The boys weren’t too bad either; we asked Chance to jump over the water, over and over again.   Can’t wait to get him for his Spring shoot; now that we know he’s up for anything, we’re gonna have a lot of fun at that one!!  Might even manage a smile or two.  Joe was absolutely great, had a super disposition and even came up with a few poses on his own that worked out great.  Our Lucy and Ethel moment(s)…we took them to Belle Isle with the hopes of shooting at two different locations.  No such luck; one was closed on Monday and Tuesdays, the other was under construction.

Ladies first…

Okay, Noelle now lay down on the wet pavers for a few more…

Now for handsome Joe….

Lastly, Chance…

JUST FOR FUN.  We thought we’d give you a sneak peek into our processing.  Have you ever had a picture that you looked at and thought it would be a good one, if only…  Here’s an example of what we do with some of those if onlys’.   I can’t tell you how it’s done, if I did the creative mind of MD Photography would kill me.  We just thought it would be kind of neat to show you an end result.   What a difference…

Jessica U-M Session

November 9, 2010

We recently had a second session with the beautiful Jessica at U-M.   You may remember that we had previously attempted this shoot, had to switch locations and ended up at a local park for her 1st session.   Although we did get many great shots, it was an extremely windy one.   Given that U-M was her first choice that’s where we headed back.  Fortunately, this session went without a Lucy and Ethel moment (a first), we had very little wind and, once again, we ended up with many great shots.  Here’s a few for now…

Isabella, 1 year already!!

October 21, 2010

I can’t believe Isabella is already one!   Time goes so fast.   We started shooting this little beauty when she was in her mommy’s belly and have had the pleasure of seeing her every three months.   Some of you may recall that this family is very special to us and if it weren’t for Bella’s/Belle’s/Izzy’s photo shoots, I’d never get to see her.    I am very thankful that Alex and Jenn have allowed us the opportunity to be their photographer during Isabella’s first year and hope to have more sessions with you in the future!!   xoxo

Lovin this first one..

Lastly, one of the whole family…

Danielle – Take 2

October 21, 2010

She’s baaack!!  You may remember Danielle from our session at Heritage Park a little while back.  Well, she wanted an indoor session and we finally got around doing so.   This was a fun shoot that netted us a lot of great pictures, thus, the large number of pictures posted.   We normally try to keep our sneak peeks at around 6 pictures per shoot.  But, I couldn’t make up my mind which one’s to sneak peek, so I put them all up!  We hit a high school for some tennis shots that it was back to our home studio for the indoor shots.    Here you go Dani, I hope you enjoy them…

Danielle is hoping to attend State next year and is waiting for her acceptance letter (we know she’s in, she’s pretty darn smart!!)  We actually had the U-M/State game on while we were shooting these pics.   Dani went home very happy her future college won!   For all you U-M fans, you can make fun of the Spartans rubbing noses in the pic below…
